(AVII) announced today that it is poised to join the prestigious Russell 3000® Index, a financial measure of the most successful large cap and small cap public companies that is used as a benchmark for investors. AVI was added to the preliminary index list June 8 and is expected to be added to the index July 9 as part of Frank Russell Co.'s annual reconstitution of its U.S. equity indices. It is a financial landmark for companies to be selected for the list because it is determined strictly by market capitalization rankings and style attributes, rather than by subjective opinion or committee. The Russell 3000 Index represents 98 percent of the U.S. equity market. It measures the performance of the 3,000 largest U.S. companies based on total market capitalization and serves as a model for both passive and active investment strategies. It includes the 1,000 largest large cap companies as well as the top 2,000 small cap companies. The final membership lists for the Russell indices will be posted on the Russell web site July 9. The Russell 3000 stocks are selected from the New York Stock Exchange, American Stock Exchange, and the NASDAQ. ``AVI's debut on the Russell 3000 Index reflects our significant growth,'' said Alan Timmins, President and Chief Operating Officer of AVI BioPharma. ``We're pleased to be part of such a successful peer group.''
